Anil Sharma recalls Ameesha Patel being apprehensive to play mother-in-law in Gadar 2, says, “Woh umaar aur samaye ko samaj nahi paayi”

Ameesha Patel made a smashing comeback with Anil Sharma directed Gadar 2. The film continues to secure spot of top 10 highest grossing Hindi movies of all time. However, after the film, rumours circulated that the actress and director have differences. Now Anil Sharma recently shared that Ameesha was apprehensive to play mother-in-law for the sequel.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Anil said, “Gadar 2 ki kahani mein unko utni jagah nahi mil payi jo Gadar 1 mein mili woh umaar aur samaye ko samaj nahi paayi ki umaar ek chiz hoti hai usko sabko samajhna hoga jab aap jeete ki maa hai toh uske bahu ki saas bhi baana padega na.” (She didn’t get the screen time that she enjoyed in Gadar 1, so she struggled to accept the natural progression and age of her character’s life; after playing Jeete’s mother, she had to play a mother-in-law).

To emphasize his point, he highlighted the careers of other Indian actresses like Nargis Dutt, who played mother at a young age. He said, “Yeh maante hai aap bohot mehnat kar rahi hai aapne aap pe lekin kalakaar hai, Nargis bhi toh bani thi Mother India mein mother jab woh young thi toh banna hi padega.” (I understand she is beautiful and is working hard on herself, but she is an actor and Nargis Dutt also played a mother onscreen to young actors when she was young).

In a previous interview, Ameesha Patel revealed that she had creative differences with director Anil Sharma when they were shooting. She shared that she would not talk to him during the shoot.

Gadar 2 also starred Sunny Deol and revived his career. It also starred newcomers Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur.
